What happened on April 12, 1961, is well known. That day, Yuri Gagarin, a Russian man, flew into space for the first time in human history aboard the Vostok spacecraft, ushering in an era of space exploration. He left the Baikonur Cosmodrome at 9:07 a.m. with his famous shout, "Poyekhali!" took off, flew in orbit around the Earth for 108 minutes, and at 10:55 landed successfully in the field in the village of Smelovka, Saratov region.
